Excellent commentary, and I appreciate the plug :-P. I think you hit it right on the head, there’s a reason a lot of these songs are popular, they’re easy to comprehend, and they’re catchy. I’ve had Cee Lo Green’s “F–k you” stuck in my head for almost a week now, without any reprieve.

That said, it makes us underestimate the artists, while I hadn’t heard “What Part of Forever” before, I can certainly say it’s a different look at Cee Lo, much like Chris Cornell’s solo work, is entirely different from anything he wrote with Audioslave or Soundgarden.

There’s a time and place for all sorts of music, but there’s no reason why I should be hearing Bruno Mars’ “Lazy Song” twice before I can get to work in the morning.
